Star S Ranch is home to some of the largest herds of African wildlife outside of Africa.

Through research and careful selection, your visit to the Star S Ranch will be like not hunting experience you have ever had in North America. You aren’t hunting for 1 or 2 Sable or Kudu. You are hunting for 40 or more bulls in 8,000 acres. If you are Bongo hunting, you may be hunting the same way you would in C.A.R., from “hides” at night. You see, our wildlife is truly wild. They have spent nearly their entire life in the wild, virtually unencumbered by fences. When you sit above the James River, you may think you are overlooking the Limpopo River as Kudu and Sable sneak in for a drink of water before dark. You can watch the bluffs as a herd of Nubian Ibex scale the cliffs on their way to bed down out of reach of coyotes and bobcats. Head across the flat plains and you will see herds of Gemsbok, and Wildebeast grazing much as you would in Namibia.

It may not be Africa, but as Dick and Mary Cabela said, “The hunting rivals the best hunting we have seen in Southern Africa.” That is what we were working for.

You will be staying in our 7,000-foot Waterfall Lodge which was completed in the summer of 2014. The main lodge includes 32-foot ceilings with black walnut walls covered with trophies from around the world. A granite bar top and service area is perfect for relaxing and telling hunting stories. The back porch overlooks a water hole where it is not uncommon to see Sable Antelope, Kudu, Axis Deer, and Whitetail Deer drinking water. There are 4 casitas, each with two rooms which has three queen sized beds and an on-suite bathroom. One room, the lodge and surroundings are wheel chair accessible so all can enjoy the facilities and outdoors. Additionally, you can fly your plane into our 5,000-foot paved Star S Airport which is located in the middle of the ranch.

Texas Exotic Hunts

In Texas you will see many people differentiate between “Texotics” or “Common Exotics” and “Super Exotics”.

We just use the terms Exotic Game and African Game in addition to our Trophy Whitetail Deer. We put everything not from Africa in the Exotic Game page. Some of these species are relatively numerous in the Texas Hill Country such as Axis deer, Blackbuck Antelope, and Aoudad. Others are extremely rare such as Alpine Ibex, Nubian Ibex, and Markhor. At Star S Ranch, we take the same pride and attention to quality with our Exotic Game as we have with our Whitetail deer and African game. We have been very careful selecting the best breeding stock and then managing them to hunt only the most mature trophies. Because the pastures are so large, anywhere from over 1,000 acres to over 4,000 acres, the hunting is challenging. Our professional guides are experienced and have both local and international hunting experience. We keep our hunting parties small.

Texas Whitetail Hunts

We are now booking Texas Whitetail hunts for the Whitetail Season.

Star S Ranch has been managing our whitetail since 1996. We expect most of our deer at maturity to be over 170”. Many will grow horns in excess of 220” – 250” if you are lucky you might just see a few 300” deer! Our emphasis has been width and frames. Deer that don’t show us those genetics are never allowed to breed. Most of our genetics are from 300” deer with widths of 30” or more.

All our deer are produced naturally in the pasture with our superior genetics or are products of our deer breeding program. Our trophy whitetail is hunted in 2,000 acres of the 14,000-acre ranch with the best feed and natural browse. We take great care not to overstock our habitat in order to maintain superior horns and body size.

Trophy Whitetail Deer hunting on the Star S Ranch is known for huge deer that’s accompanied by a five-star experience. You will never be crowded like so many commercial operations today.

Additionally, you will only be hunting on our ranch-no traveling from place to place. The deer you will be hunting were born and bred on the Star S Ranch. The ranch is set up for bow hunting, cross bow hunting, rifle hunting, and even pistol hunting. Our guides have years of experience hunting whitetail deer and non-native species in Texas and Africa. The atmosphere is exclusive, yet relaxed. Trophy Whitetail are priced in five reasonable increments because we like hunting, not looking through the binoculars while adding on a calculator.
